For those looking to get away from crowds, computers, cell phones, etc., this is the place!!!! Smith Creek Ranch is a 2,800 acre working cattle ranch in the geographic center of Nevada. The Ranch is situated at an elevation of 6,600 feet, on the eastern slope of towering Desatoya Peak (9,973 feet) and is a 2 1/2 hour drive from Reno or a 5 hour drive from Las Vegas. Owned and operated by the Hendrix family, Smith Creek Ranch offers some exceptional still water trout fishing in spectacular solitude.
The primary fishery on the Ranch is a 6 acre lake, always stocked with a good supply of “home grown” Rainbow Trout. While fish over 5 pounds are not uncommon, most of the inhabitants of this lake are in the 2-4 pound range. This water is perfect for float tube enthusiast or anglers who like to walk/wade the banks. In years with a favorable snow pack other fly fishing opportunities on the Ranch include, a brushy mountain stream, which offers some fun creek fishing, and a 25-acre reservoir with a good population of trout in the 12-20 inch class.
To ensure the future of these trout fisheries we maintain a strict catch and release, barbless hook, fly fishing only policy.
While fishing at Smith Creek Ranch enjoy a piece of the “old west” by staying at the 100+ year old Ranch House, situated almost within casting distance of the 6 acre lake. The Ranch House has a fully equipped kitchen for "do-it yourself " anglers, sleeps 6 comfortably and is both an enjoyable and memorable place to stay. Guided trips and meal packages are available on a limited basis, for anglers who could use some fly fishing instruction and local knowledge and/or would like to relax before, during and after their fishing day and leave the cooking to someone else.
For overnight trips, your “day” at Smith Creek Ranch will start at 3:00pm on the date of arrival and will end at 2:00pm on the departure date.
Fly Fishing Rates
$125/day per angler for up to 4 anglers
For a 5th and 6th angler, the daily charge is $100/day per angler
(Maximum recommended number of anglers per day is 6.) There is no charge for non-anglers.
Accommodations
Ranch House - $100/night (for the group) plus applicable room tax.
There are 3 bedrooms available which sleep 6 adults comfortably. Bring your own sleeping bags!
Overnight Guided Trip $450/day for 1 or 2 anglers $50/day for each additional angler.
Overnight Guide and Meals Package (includes three meals/day and a guide)
$500/day for 1or 2 anglers $100.00 each additional angler $50 each additional non angler
Note: Guide and Meal packages are in addition to the daily fishing fees and accommodations charges.
